In a historic achievement, Captain Supreetha C.T. from Mysuru has become the first woman Army officer to be operationally deployed at the Siachen Glacier, the world’s highest battlefield. This significant milestone marks a new chapter in the annals of the Indian Army and highlights the breaking of gender barriers in one of the most challenging environments on earth.

Breaking Barriers and Conquering Challenges

The Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADG PI) – Indian Army, announced this remarkable accomplishment on X (formerly Twitter): “Breaking Barriers….Conquering Challenges…..Captain Supreetha C.T. joins the league of #SiachenWarriors. With her enduring strength & determination, she is now operationally deployed at the world’s highest battlefield #Siachen.”

Rigorous Training and Family Support

Capt. Supreetha’s father, Thirumallesh, a sub-inspector of police in Talkad near Mysuru, expressed immense pride in his daughter’s achievements. He shared that Capt. Supreetha underwent rigorous training to prepare for her deployment in such a demanding and hostile environment. Her dedication and perseverance have made her a trailblazer for women in the armed forces.

Journey to the Summit

A native of Chamarajanagar district, Capt. Supreetha’s family resides in Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Nagar, Mysuru. Her educational journey began at Shastri Vidya Samsthe in Hunsur, followed by studies at St. Mary’s Convent in H.D. Kote and St. Joseph’s School at K.R. Nagar. She completed her high school and pre-university education at Marimallappa’s in Mysuru before earning an LLB degree from JSS Law College in Mysuru.

In 2021, Capt. Supreetha joined the Indian Army as a Lieutenant. After completing her training in Chennai, she was commissioned into the Corps of Army Air Defence. Her deployment to Siachen marks a significant personal and professional achievement, showcasing her resolve and capability to serve in one of the most arduous postings in the world.
