PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to become next ACC President

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi is set to become the next president of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) later this year, following the organization's rotation policy. This development comes after a recent ACC meeting where Naqvi's prospective appointment was discussed.

The current ACC president, BCCI secretary Jay Shah, received a one-year extension in January 2024, marking his third consecutive term in the role. Once Shah steps down, Naqvi will take over the presidency.

In recent news, the ACC has awarded the hosting rights for the Asia Cup 2025 to India, which will be held in the T20 format, and the 2027 edition in the ODI format to Bangladesh. These decisions set the stage for significant cricket events in 2025, including the Champions Trophy in Pakistan in February-March, followed by the Asia Cup, which will serve as a precursor to the T20 World Cup 2026.

The scheduling of these events is likely to reignite discussions and speculations regarding whether India will travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy or if Pakistan will visit India for the Asia Cup. This is particularly significant given the historical context of cricketing relations between the two countries.

Pakistan traveled to India last year for the ODI World Cup, marking their first visit since the 2011 ODI World Cup and the 2016 T20 World Cup. India has not visited Pakistan since 2008 when they last toured for the 50-overs Asia Cup.

As Naqvi prepares to take on his new role, the cricketing community will be watching closely to see how these major events unfold and impact the sport in the region.
